> "If you can get Chris as an advisor or investor we strongly recommend it" – Josh Singer and Cam Kelley, Eigen.net ![[chris-barber-image.png|40]] I'm Chris. Here's what to expect from me as an investor. In general I'm a passive investor and love to give input on questions async. > "Chris is one of my favorite humans on the planet. Smart, doer and fun. But of course my view is very biased. I owe my entire coaching career to him, as he was the very first person to ask me to coach!" – Matt Mochary, coached the CEOs of Coinbase, Notion, Reddit, and the managing partners of Benchmark, Sequoia. This video clip, used with permission, was after I helped facilitate a conversation between Josh and his co-founder. I'm not an investor. His company is bootstrapped. <div style="position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0;"><iframe src="https://www.loom.com/embed/a2a909c8e2654b289fd69782dc5a1190?sid=55ce7a43-5f18-40c5-bbfc-3cf17b3f2ef5" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;"></iframe></div> **Topics I can advise on** * Co-founder conflict and leadership team conflict (cred: [I made a communication method that for a small number of people has been gamechanging](https://chrisbarber.co/Chris+Barber#Emotional%20Regulation), I also co-founded an executive coaching marketplace used by 100+ venture-backed startups to find CEO/exec coaches) * If interested, I'll happily teach you and your cofounder this method. It's really good at helping co-founders feel in sync/understood by each other. * Founder decision making (cred: [I made a decision making method that for a small number of people has been life-changing for decision making](https://chrisbarber.co/Chris+Barber#Decision%20Making)) * It's basically the same as the tool for cofounder communication, so if I teach you that I can add the decision making tool onto it too. * Forging product-market-fit and getting to $1mm in revenue (cred: I've personally sold the first $1mm in revenue for two businesses. Once solo, and once with a cofounder and a salesperson.) * Can help with writing new versions of cold emails * Reviewing customer pitch decks or call scripts * Hiring (cred: I've run a recruiting business) * I have strong opinions about when and who to hire (roughly: as few as possible, as late as possible, as founder-type as possible; so that you can maintain adaptability, especially until you have strong PMF but even then too) * I love doing intros if they're double-opt in requests for an intro to a specific person that you see I'm connected to (strong preference for specific person requests, rather than open-ended "we're hiring xyz, know anyone?" requests.) * Raising money (10+ yrs ago I interned at Greylock on the investment team) * I have a good model for what investors will think but not say while reviewing a pitch * I have a decent sense for the strategy of fundraising (mostly: investors will decide before they ever see your pitch) **What to expect** * I read updates and whenever I have something that may be helpful, I'll send it, otherwise I'm passive. I typically prefer text or email or unscheduled calls, rather than scheduled calls. **What to expect right away** * I'll say great and I'll wait for the docs, when I get them I'll sign, after I sign I'll wait to receive a wire instructions email, when I see the wire instructions email I'll wire, and then the next time you hear from me would either be when I see something I could give helpful info about in an investor update email or when you email me a question directly. > ![[rafael-cosman.png|40]] "I've known Chris Barber for around a decade now and he is a great guy and someone that we are honored to have as an angel investor. Would definitely recommend working with him if you have the chance!" – Rafael Cosman, Founder of Protogon Research
